The evangelical Word Biblical Commentary series was once renowned as a bulwark in the defence of the divine revelation of (Protestant) Scripture against the slings and arrows of its modern critics.
But all this has now changed.
The Nashville-based commentary series (previously of Wacko, Texas) has released a commentary on a hitherto unknown apocryphal pseudo-Pauline epistle: The Epistle to the Phililppians*! What is the world coming to?
* Note: the name “Phililppians” only occurs on the front of the book’s jacket. Inside the book, they try to pass it off as a commentary on Philippians. A sheep in wolf’s clothing, to be sure.
Haha! It is a little ironic that right below the word Phililppians it says “Revised.”
Yeah, funny – sure is “revised”!
Ha! I always KNEW there were two l’s in Phillippians.
Just didn’t know there there were three i’s.
Aarrghhhh….. people just DON’T proofread display type anymore.
I’ll be[t] the people who proofed the jacket/cover layout went over all the tiny type on the back.
They made sure the names for Metzger et al. are correct.
…oh, wait, the headline says “Apocryphal Books”! This must be similar to, but not the same as, Paul’s epistle to the Philippians, eh?
Hmm – will they recall all dust jackets? The dust jackets alone could become very valuable…
It’s not spelled that way on all dust jackets. I had a look:

in that case where is the one in this post? I wonder how many there actually are. They’ll be valuable. If it’s yours, keep it mint. And if you want to use a copy, buy another one, but keep this mint.
I’ll give you 5 bucks for it.
Thanks. But I don’t own it.
Hi Tyrone,
Are you still blogging or is it hard to keep it going. Interesting stuff. Please check out my blog. Perhaps we can exchange links? (I’m blogging everyday and getting close to 200 hits now). Weird huh?
So I’m just looking for interesting stuff to link to and with.
Please let me know. Going to start a blog roll.
Thanks,
Brian
